Texas Self Storage Association makes donation to hospital
TSSA donates over $70,000 to Shriners Hospitals for Children

Dallas, Texas, 4 February 2013 – Each year, the Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA) donates the total of their fundraising efforts to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, a tradition since 2007. In 2012, the TSSA was honored to give over $70,000 to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, Texas.

The hospital facility in Galveston is one of four that specializes in pediatric burn treatment. The facility is world-renowned and is funded solely by charitable donations. The TSSA has supported the Shriners since 2006 and is excited to continue for years to come.

Multiple events spread throughout the year provide opportunities for TSSA members and vendors to donate, culminating in a live and silent auction at the organization's annual convention. 2012 welcomed A&E celebrity auctioneers Dan Dotson and Walt Hale to the auction podium, heading up the most successful live auction in TSSA history.

Access Self Storage celebrates television appearance with charitable party
Lancaster Outreach Center receives toys for needy children

Lancaster, Tx – A&E’s hit television spinoff Storage Wars: Texas filmed at locally owned Access Self Storage in August and the footage aired just a few weeks ago. Not one to pass up the opportunity for a fiesta, Access celebrated in true celebrity style - with two neighborhood watch parties.

Viewings of Access’ premier episode took place across the metroplex, with one projected on the wall of Bienvenidos Restaurant & Cantina in Lancaster, hosted by Access Self Storage owners Doug and David Hunt, and one in North Dallas, hosted by Marketing Director Jennifer Hunt. Tenants and friends from all six Access facilities turned out to enjoy fun and laughter surrounded by delicious Fresh Mex cuisine. When this particular party was in the planning phases, however, owner Doug Hunt saw more than simply an opportunity for a fun evening.

“We decided we could take a big success for us and use it to help out our community,” Hunt remembers. Access chose to give back by asking partiers to bring a a new toy to the festivities. The toys (along with a $5-per-toy donation made by Access) were then delivered to the Lancaster Outreach Center to be distributed to children in need this Christmas.

Party goers were also thrilled to have the opportunity to spend time with Storage Wars: Texas auctioneer Walt Cade, who made the trip to attend the watch party. Many a Facebook profile picture was taken.

Doug Hunt presented with Rocky Strickland Community Enhancement Award
Lancaster Chamber of Commerce awards Access Self Storage owner

Lancaster, Tx – Four years ago, Access Self Storage Owner Doug Hunt decided to make a concentrated effort to give back to the communities that his facilities serve. Since that time, Access has been able to change the lives of hundreds through its benefits and partnerships with organizations across the DFW area.

Home of both a storage facility and Access' corporate headquarters, many of those organizations are centered in or work with the city of Lancaster. In the past, both the Lancaster Education Foundation and the Lancaster Outreach Center have recognized the efforts of Access Self Storage and Doug Hunt. In recent addition to these honors, Hunt is also the newest recipient of the Rocky Strickland Community Enhancement Award.

At Saturday evening's annual Lancaster Chamber Awards Banquet and Gala, the business community chose to recognize Hunt's commitment to the Lancaster area and his support of charitable organizations in the city. “I was shocked,” reports Hunt. “I really did not expect it at all.” When asked if the award motivates him to do more, he responded with a laugh and, “Absolutely. Not that we've ever felt that what we were doing was wasted, but it is really nice to have someone else tell us it makes a difference.”
